The Christmas ballet par excellence, the Nutcracker is certainly one of the most popular titles in the theatre’s great repertoire. Colourful and elegant, joyful and vibrant – these are the characteristics of the exclusive Nutcracker by the Ballet of Milan produced by Federico Veratti in the full-of-verve style that distinguishes the Company. The choreography sweeps through the libretto and the first act flows through the children’s and parents’ dances under the Christmas tree and ends with the enchanting dance of the snowflakes. The divertissement of Act II, with its Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, and Russian dances, is an explosion of joy and colour, culminating in the exciting pas de deux.
The scintillating set design created by Marco Pesta ranges from a colourful 20s-style setting where the tree stands tall, glittering with decorations, to a dreamlike, impressionistic setting of the vibrant background of Clara’s journey. The costumes are based on sketches by Federico Veratti.

The Ballet of Milan has existed for more than 30 years and since 1998 it has been directed by Carlo Pesta. During the years of his being in charge, the Ballet of Milan has staged important and challenging productions in Italy as well as on many international stages. Over the years of its history, the Company has worked with famous dancers and world-known choreographers such as Luciana Savignano, Carla Fracci, Oriella Dorella, Raffaele Paganini, Danys Ganio, Ruben Celiberti and Grazia Galante.
