CONCERT CELEBRATING THE 95TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE REPUBLIC OF ESTONIA

On 22 February 2013, the Nokia Concert Hall hosts a concert dedicated to the 95th anniversary of the Republic of Estonia. The concert brings to the stage well-known and popular Estonian musicians, the band Ro:Toro, the Male Choir of Tallinn University, and the Police and Border Guard Orchestra. More than 70 musicians will be playing music and singing under Hando Põldmäe’s conducting.

The grand and festive concert “The Republic of Estonia 95” will feature songs about our homeland and love, as well as hits from the repertoire of Tõnis Mägi, Bonzo, Birgit Varjun, Mikk Dede, Hannaliisa Uusma & HU? and the folk band Ro:Toro.

Among others, we will hear the songs “Ilus oled Isamaa”, “Rahu”, “Kui mind kutsud sa”, “Koit”, “Sa haara kinni mu käest”, “Ilus on ikkagi isamaa pale”, “See on laps meie muld”, “Võta mind lehtede varju”, “Depressiivsed Eesti väikelinnad”, “Ingel lendas ära”, “Imeline aas”, “Mees ja jumal”.

The Police and Border Guard orchestra will present their first CD.

The Police and Border Guard Orchestra (established in 2010) consists of 30 professional musicians. Their repertoire is very wide-ranging and their concert calendar is stylishly versatile. The orchestra has cooperated with most of the well-known instrumentalists and vocalists in Estonia and released several records.

The composer Hando Põldmäe has been the head composer of several orchestras. In 2006, he was received the Best Young Conductor award from the Estonian Choral association.

The Male Choir of Tallinn University was founded in 1999. Although still young, the choir already has are some notable achievements: first place in Finland at the National Leevi Madetoja Male choir song competition in 2005 (in category B); gold medal at 38th Festival Of Songs Olomouc, Czech Republic, successful participation in the TV-show “Laululahing”. The choir has cooperated with the rock band “The Sun”, and with Marvi Vallaste, Kaire Vilgats, Mikk Saar, Mati Palm, Lenna Kuurmaa. The choir is conducted by Jüri Rent and Indrek Vijard.
